Statement of the Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome regarding Israeli attack on Palestinians in Tal al-Sultan Area in Rafa

The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, in the most strongest terms, condemns the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) brutal genocidal attack on Tal al-Sultan area last Sunday night, which took the precious lives of a large number of innocent Palestinians, including women and children within the so called the declared ‘safe zone’ in Rafa by Israel.

Eight months into this brutal genocidal war, Israel under the leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu continues to act with impunity. The drawn red line by the US President Biden for the Israeli military conduct on Rafa, now has become a river of red blood in Rafa, where Israel continues to comfortably swim and navigate in it.

In the last eight months, Israel either has celebrated, justified or rejected its ill military conducts on the civilian population in Gaza. As it relates to Israel’s latest attack on Tal al-Sultan area by calling it a ‘tragedy’ and promising to investigate the circumstances of the deaths of civilians in the area, is nothing more than a ploy to ease the criticism of the international community.

Despite the diplomatic tsunami against Israel—legal judicial stance by ICC and ICJ, UN resolutions, condemnations by EU member states, humanitarian agencies and the international community as well as the latest recognition of Palestinian as a sovereign state by 145 members of the UN General Assembly followed by the recent recognition of a Palestinian State by Ireland, Spain and Norway—it continues with its daily brutal genocidal campaign against innocent Palestinians in Gaza.

At this critical juncture as Israel plans to intensify and widen its attacks on Rafa, it is imperative that the US must take concrete action and pair it with the aforementioned rulings and condemnations. However, the attack by Israel on Tal al-Sultan area proves that the same 2000 pound bombs that were dropped there, are the same ones that were ‘suspended’ by the Biden administration.

The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, calls on the UN, US, EU and the International community to immediately utilize their soft and hard power on Netanyahu government to accept the call for an immediate ceasefire, allow the release and return of the Israeli hostages to their loved ones and prepare the fertile ground for the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders as the only viable path to finally end the current Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
