Former Ambassadors

Former AmbassadorsFormer Accredited Ambassadors of Afghanistan to Italy

Afghanistan and Italy established formal diplomatic ties in 1921, making Italy one of the first European countries to recognize Afghanistan’s independence. Over the decades, the two nations have built a relationship rooted in mutual respect, development cooperation, and cultural exchange.

Italy supported Afghanistan through various phases of modernization and reconstruction—especially after 2001—by contributing to infrastructure, judicial reform, and humanitarian aid.

Although Italy suspended its Kabul embassy in 2021 following the Taliban’s return to power, it continues to engage with Afghan civil society and support Afghan refugees through its embassy in Doha and numerous humanitarian efforts.
